Itching, scabs and hair loss can have several causes. Mites are one possibility, not a diagnosis that can be confirmed from these signs alone.
Treatment needs a diagnosis
A vet can check for parasites and recommend an appropriate treatment. The inherited medication comparison and dosing table have been removed; this page does not provide a drug dose.
“Food grade” does not mean harmless to breathe
The old article described diatomaceous earth as completely harmless. The National Pesticide Information Center describes irritation from breathing its dust. Do not use that old assurance as a reason to dust an animal or its living space.
Correction
Unsupported oil-bath, routine-treatment and cure claims have also been removed.
